According to the colophon, this book was compiled by Seng-yu of the Liang dynasty (梁) (A.n. 502-557).1 However, the K'ai yüan shih chao lu (開元釋教錄) says that it was compiled by Tao-hsüan on the 18th day, 9th month, 2nd year of Lin Te (麟德), T'ang dynasty (唐) (November 1st, A.D. 665) in Hsi-ming Monastery (西明寺).2
